Frequently Asked Questions About Online Counselling

Explore answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about my counselling services, initial consultations, and how to schedule appointments.

How can online counselling support clients?

Online counselling offers the same guidance and support you would expect to receive from in-person counselling. People attend online counselling for diverse reasons, including to address mental health challenges, clarify major life decisions, discuss relationship concerns, and identify problem-solving actions.

Is online counselling suitable for everyone?

The short answer is yes. With few exceptions, online counselling provides clients with a safe, efficient, and discreet way to receive support from the comfort of their preferred location. It also eliminates the risk of clients bumping into someone they know while entering or leaving a counselling clinic. Accessing online counselling is easy, requiring only a computer or smartphone connected to Wi-Fi.

How does online counselling differ from in-person counselling?

Apart from location differences, the type and quality of counselling provided to clients online or in-person is the same.

What do I need to do before commencing an online counselling session?

First, feel confident that you have taken a crucial step towards addressing your life challenges. It requires strength of character to recognise when you need support and to take action. Secondly, rest assured of my commitment to supporting you, regardless of your individual circumstance and background.

I conduct online counselling sessions using Zoom video conferencing. This widely used and reliable communication platform offers video, audio, and chat functions, enabling responsive two-way communication.

How to join a Zoom meeting

Using Zoom requires an internet connection and a supported device, such as a laptop/desktop computer or a smartphone. To join a Zoom meeting, you need to:

  1. Open the Zoom meeting invitation sent to your email address or automatically added to your email account calendar.
  2. Find the Zoom meeting link and click on it. On most invitations, the meeting link will appear under the Join Zoom Meeting heading.
  3. Click Allow if prompted to open Zoom.

What is the cost of an individual counselling session?

Fees

  • A fee of $110.00 is charged for a 60 minute individual counselling session.
  • A fee of $55.00 is charged for cancellations made within 24 hours of the confirmed appointment time.

While a matter for potential  consideration by the Australian Government in the future, the cost of seeing a counsellor is not currently subsidised under Medicare. However, for most clients, the cost of seeing a counsellor is lower than that for seeing a psychologist with a Medicare rebate.

When choosing between options, you should also consider your specific needs and how well you relate to the therapist. You are disclosing sensitive information, so it is wise to choose carefully. Additionally, therapy sessions by counsellors aren’t recorded on My Health records and, unlike session caps in mental health plans, there are no limits on the number of counselling sessions you can access.
